|About the Book|
One of the best behind the scene books on World War II that I have ever read. The author did this project as part of his dissertation in History. Watterson is a retired Navy officer and lives near the Portsmouth Navy shipyard. Not only is this a great book for those interested in naval history, it contains many wonderful examples of how to craft an exemplary production team under the most difficult of circumstances. The book explores the way that Portsmouth Navy Shipyard become one of the most efficient and productive suppliers of submarines to the US Navy. They pioneered methods to deal with complex manufacturing demands with a workforce under constant change as the draft or other factors took skilled workers away. The work is exceptionally well researched with ample references to period sources including newspapers and photographs.
